Leather Care Guide

Care for leather that is made to be carried

Simple, careful habits help preserve the finish, structure, and character of your Calfnero leather goods.

Routine

Everyday care, storage, and moisture response

Use a light hand. Most leather-care issues begin when leather is soaked, overheated, over-conditioned, or rubbed aggressively.

Daily care

After use, wipe with a clean, dry, soft cloth. Remove dust from seams and grain with gentle strokes. Avoid rubbing one area aggressively.

Water and moisture care

If leather gets wet, blot immediately with an absorbent cloth and let it dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use a hair dryer, heater, or direct sunlight. Once fully dry, contact Calfnero before applying any product if the surface looks stained or stiff.

Storage

Store in a breathable dust bag in a cool, dry place. Maintain shape with clean acid-free tissue or soft fabric, and avoid overstuffing. Do not hang heavy bags by their handles for long periods.

Long-term maintenance

Use only leather care products suitable for the specific finish, and test first on a hidden area. For deep stains, color transfer, or structural repairs, consult Calfnero support or a leather care professional.

Leather aging and patina

Natural leather may deepen, soften, crease, or develop a subtle patina with use. This aging should be gradual and characterful; sudden stains, sticky residue, peeling, or strong discoloration should be reviewed before treatment.

By finish

Care by Calfnero leather type

Croco-print leather texture close-up

Croco-print

Embossed / printed finish

Clean with a soft dry cloth, following the direction of the grain or embossing where possible. Avoid abrasive brushing, heavy rubbing, or thick creams that can collect in the printed texture.

Nappa leather texture close-up

Nappa

Soft smooth leather

Use a soft dry cloth for routine care. Keep away from excess moisture and heavy conditioners, which may darken or alter the soft hand feel. Test any care product on a hidden area first.

Washed finish

Expect natural variation, softened structure, and casual creasing. Wipe gently with a dry cloth and avoid soaking or trying to even out shade variation with aggressive cleaning.

Dip-washed finish

Shade highs and lows may be part of the finish character. Blot moisture quickly, dry naturally at room temperature, and avoid heat or harsh products that can disturb the surface.

Calfnero internal finish

Use general gentle care: dry cloth, no soaking, no harsh cleaners, and no untested conditioner.

Flotter

Grained / pebbled leather

Dust can settle into the grain, so wipe with a clean dry cloth and use light strokes around seams. Avoid heavy wax buildup in the texture.

Goat leather

Use a soft dry cloth and avoid excessive pressure. Natural grain and fine character marks should be treated gently rather than polished aggressively.

Hunter

Calfnero internal / rugged finish

Clean with a dry cloth and allow gradual character marks to settle naturally. Avoid water saturation, heat, solvents, and untested care products.

Kara leather texture close-up

Kara

Use gentle care only: dust gently, blot moisture immediately, dry naturally, and avoid harsh cleaners or heavy conditioners.

Light marks may often be softened by gently buffing with a clean dry cloth. Keep away from heat, solvents, and excess conditioner, which can disturb oils or waxes and darken the surface.

Pre-washed leather texture close-up

Pre-washed

Pre-washed finish

Clean lightly with a dry cloth and respect natural shade variation or creasing from the finish. Avoid soaking, aggressive rubbing, or drying with heat.

Questions

Leather care FAQ

Can I use water to clean leather?

Avoid soaking leather. If a finish allows light damp cleaning, use the least moisture possible and dry naturally. When unsure, use a dry cloth and contact Calfnero first.

Can I use sanitizer, perfume, vinegar, or household cleaner?

No. Alcohol, perfume, vinegar, detergents, acetone, and household cleaners can stain, dry, strip, or discolor leather and hardware.

Why does leather change color or crease?

Leather is natural, so tone, grain, creasing, and softness can evolve with use. Gradual patina is expected on some finishes; sudden stains, peeling, or sticky residue should be checked before treatment.

How often should I condition my product?

Only condition when the leather type and finish are compatible with that product. Over-conditioning can darken or soften leather unevenly, so always test first and use a light hand.

Which leather care product should I use?

Use a product made for the specific leather finish, not a general household cleaner. When unsure, use a dry cloth and avoid applying treatment products.
